Why I Write Children’s Books Alongside Dark Fantasy

As an author, I live in two worlds.

One is dark, seductive, and filled with supernatural politics and fated bonds — the realm of my fantasy romance series The Sixth Accord.

The other is bright, imaginative, and bursting with heart — the world of my children’s books.

At first glance, these two sides of my writing life might seem far apart, but to me, they’re deeply connected.

Stories for Children: Belonging, Laughter, and Imagination

As a mother of eight, including three sons with learning disabilities, I’ve seen firsthand how powerful stories can be. They can comfort, inspire, and give children the sense that they are not alone. My children’s books are written with that purpose: to celebrate imagination, friendship, and belonging.

  • The World Is Too Loud

A gentle, lyrical picture book for sensitive children who feel overwhelmed by the world. It reminds them that softness is strength, and that they can always find their own quieter way.

  • Mokie’s Adventures (Book One: Mokie the Silly Sausage Dog)

Meet Mokie, the mischievous dachshund with a big heart and endless curiosity. His adventures — from silly sausage dog antics to trips to the beach and school — are full of laughter and love.

  • The Day My… Series (Book One: The Day My Backpack Ate My Lunch)

A hilarious, Looney Tunes–style romp where backpacks grow teeth, lunches vanish, and chaos rules the classroom. This series brings rhyme, comedy, and cartoon energy to life on the page.

  • Down Under: A Journey Through Australia

A colourful, rhyming trip across Australia’s wild landscapes, from kangaroos to cassowaries, the reef to the outback — celebrating animals, adventure, and Aussie magic.

Coming Soon

My portfolio is growing quickly, with several new children’s titles on the way:

  • When Stories Take Flight — a heartfelt story about Arden, a boy who struggles with reading but never stops creating.

  • Wings of the Lost Sky — a middle grade fantasy adventure about winged beings, shadowed mountains, and one boy destined to unlock the Gate.

  • What Leo Saw — a tender, uplifting picture book about a boy who collects treasures others call “junk,” and the magic of seeing possibility where others don’t.

Why Both Worlds Matter

You might wonder: how do dark fantasy romance and children’s books fit together? For me, it’s simple. Both genres are about resilience, imagination, and belonging. Whether it’s a heroine fighting through shadows or a child finding courage in their own voice, every story I write is a rebellion — against silence, against despair, against the idea that we are ever truly alone.

Open for Representation

These children’s books are part of my professional author portfolio and are currently open for literary representation and publishing opportunities.
